Frequently asked questions

Do you accept insurance?

Currently, I do not participate with health insurance plans including Medicare. However, if you intend to use your out-of-network reimbursement benefit, I am happy to provide an itemized receipt (“Superbill”) that you can use to submit to your insurance company.

What is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner?

Psychiatric nurse practitioners have advanced academic training and clinical experience, that enable them to perform physical and psychiatric assessments, make diagnoses, conduct therapy, order and interpret laboratory tests, and prescribe medications for individuals with mental health disorders.

What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy, like counseling, is based on a healing relationship between a mental health care provider and client. Psychotherapy, or therapy for short, also takes place over a series of meetings. Some people participate in therapy off and on over several years.

Instead of focusing on individual problems, psychotherapy considers overall patterns, chronic issues, and recurrent feelings. The aim of psychotherapy is to address the underlying issues which perpetuate ongoing emotional and behavioral patterns that interfere with quality and function of your well-being.

How are payments collected?

Payment in full is due at the time of your visit. I ask that you allow Little River Psychiatry, PLLC to retain a credit card on file (to be held on a secure server) for balances due at time of service. Little River Psychiatry, PLLC is compliant with all applicable healthcare HIPAA regulations and Payment Card Industry ("PCI") security standards. Little River Psychiatry, PLLC does not have access to your full payment card number. Payments using check, cash, and FSA and HSA cards are accepted. Please make checks payable to Little River Psychiatry, PLLC. If the patient is not the guarantor, I may require that a major credit card be kept on file so I can process payment at time of service.

Do you provide treatment for chemical dependency?

At this time, I do not provide care for those who are seeking services from a chemical dependency provider or need the variety of services of an established outpatient chemical dependency treatment program. I have varied clinical experience working with patients with a dual diagnosis, but I do not provide office-based services as an addiction specialist (e.g., buprenorphine, methadone, alcohol detoxification).

Do you offer genomic testing for psychiatric medications?

Theoretically, pharmacogenomic testing has the potential to improve patient outcomes in psychiatry. Scien evidence reflects mixed results in studies that have investigated the clinical application of this type of testing. If you have experienced an inadequate response or adverse reaction to a previous antidepressant or antipsychotic trial, a genetic test can be considered.

What are your weekly hours?

Hours are by appointment Monday through Friday. The earliest opening is 9:00 a.m. with one day a week available for evening appointments.
